Choosing a Qualified Contractor

In recent years there has been a drastic increase in the number of sealcoating companies in our area, some professional, others not. As a service to help protect consumers, we have put together the following check list of questions, to try to help the quality and valued conscious consumer weed out the non-established, "under qualified", "fly by night", "make a quick buck" contractors. We hope that this question list will help consumers become more educated in the things that they may not know about when choosing a quality asphalt paving contractor and what qualities they should be looking for from a well-established, high quality sealcoating company. This checklist can also be used on a variety of projects, not just pavement maintenance. Use this-list to your advantage in the future to get the best quality and value for your money. Compare quality not just the bottom line. Remember, if someone hands you a bid for half the price, question why. Usually it's what they may not be doing that may make that sweet deal not so sweet after all.

CONSUMER WARNING: Be aware if any sealcoating company knocks on your door saying that they have just enough sealer left in their tank to sealcoat your driveway. If this happens, DON'T WALK AWAY - RUN AWAY!!! This technique is used by many traveling out of state scam artists who are uninsured and are usually using illegal, cheap, oil based material that is NOT LEGAL FOR USE IN THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY. This material is shiny, slippery and hazardous. Immediately contact the police if any of these people knock on your door.
